Description
**First Time At Auction**
Roman, Imperial Period, ca. 2nd to 4th century CE. A set of two cast-bronze razor blade holders containing heavily-oxidized iron razors, each handle bearing an openwork design. The first handle displays a pair of abstract avian heads with incised eyes and aquiline beaks. The second handle is comprised of twin circular holes, scalloped shoulders, and a projecting, perforated suspension loop. The avian-adorned handle still holds the entirety of a rhombus-shaped iron razor with rounded corners and a sharpened edge. The bronze handles are each covered in a smooth emerald-green patina. Size of largest (no blade): 1.75" W x 2" H (4.4 cm x 5.1 cm).

Condition
Iron blade of larger handle missing, with some small losses to rim of blade slot. Both pieces have age-commensurate surface wear, slight bending to overall form, and some minor discoloration, otherwise very good. Iron blade components are heavily oxidized.
