Description
A splendid pair of tea dust glazed porcelain jars shrouded with an elaborate gilt design depicting substantial carp. Gilt line-work sits flush with the glaze creating a homogeneous pattern of alternating foliage and carp circumscribed around the entire vase. Large bulbous vessel expands into a spherical cavity rising to form the bottlenecked opening. The base is a discus wall that traces the bottom diameter, with the face having a slight inward concave. Both vessels sit on dark hardwood stands to make these pieces a prominent feature of any setting. All reserved in olive-green under glazed with densely dusted golden-yellow speckles, thinning to brown at the mouth-rim.
Mark on base, incised six seal script -ZhuanShu- characters reign mark, Made in The Years of QianLong Reign Period of Great Qing.
Dimensions: 8-3/4" H x 8-1/2" Dia.
Stand: 1-5/8" H
PROVENANCE: From the estate and inheritance of Cecil Knight Jr. (1933- 2017).
He was gifted these items from his parents who had lived abroad in the late 1800s.
Cecil Knight Sr. professional experience was in foreign property acquisition for major corporations, trips to find and evaluate a piece of property often would take 6 months or more. This time while in foreign countries also allowed the couple to search out and collect highly sought after rare and unique antiques that they would bring back as gifts for his family members and add into their private collection.
Over many years they had collected more than 240 Chinese items as well as almost 1,500 European works of art and treasures.
