Pair of Chinese Qing Dynasty gilt bronze cloisonne statues in the form of two caparisoned elephant effigies, with their heads tilting to the right and left. The elephants are carrying gu beaker vases atop blanketing saddles, adorned with centered longevity symbols. The beaker vases each carry two Fangtian-ji (Song dynasty) crescent spears that have dangling tassels. A central cloud-form juts upward from in between the spears to cup a beautiful jade medallion at the top. The blanket is designed in resplendent rococo patterns that depict blooming lotus flowers which is also mirrored along the perimeter of the pedestal. The Elephant - is the last of the four Animals of Power and Energy. It represents strength, sagacity, and prudence. The statues adorned with many auspicious floral patterns with colorful semi-precious stones inlaid. The design is elegant with colors that entice the eyes. This is truly a masterful work of art.
