Pair of Chinese Covered porcelain bowls. Deep curvature flaring upward to form the rim, with a slightly raised footing. The exterior is adorned with hand-painted floral design, depicting a rooster, hen, and chicks scratching the soil for grubs. The Cock or (Gong-Ji) Wards off evil. A picture of a red cock will defend a house from fire. A white cock positioned on a casket will keep demons at bay. According to ancient times a cock is never to be killed or bad luck will arise. The clay is very fine, with a brilliant glaze finish that was applied by a meticulous craftsman.
