Large polychromed earthenware vase with frolicking horses done in the mid 1940's by Waylande Gregory. The speckled ground and the horses themselves are done in bright enamel-like glazes with much fired on gold. There is a cast hole in the base either for wiring or for drainage should the vase be left outside. Excellent condition. A similar example with Mermaid decoration is pictured in Folk, "Waylande Gregory Art Deco Ceramics and the Atomic Impulse" on page 149 and discussed therein on page 141.
