Description
A rare mold for Wedgwood Jasperware from the now-closed Wedgwood pottery factory. With this and similar molds, Josiah Wedgwood and his artists used a dark clay to mold decorative floral sprigs and applied them to pottery and ceramic pieces, standing out against the color. That technique of adding thin clay designs made in a separate mold is called "sprigging." Jasperware was first developed by Josiah Wedgwood in the 1770s. It is noted for its matte and unglazed biscuit finish in several different colors. Impressed mark WEDGWOOD to side, other potters marks. =; Country of Origin: England; Size: 3.25" L x 1.75" W; Issued: ca. 1820
