Steel and gold ring, 1916, 4.6 dwts.marked inside "Friedrich"and 1914-1916.This ring is probably a reference to Archduke Freidrich who in 1914 was named the Supreme Commander of the armed forces of Austra at the beginning of WWI and relieved of his command in 1916.The ring has an F with a crown and the years 1914 and 1916.It might also be an example of the practice of German or Austrian people do wearing jewelry symbolic of having given gold to the government during wartime and receiving steel jewelry or partial steel jewelry in return as a symbol of patriotism.The ring appears to date from the early part of the 20th century And appears to be Austrian or German in manufacture, and allude to the First World War.
