Description
This is very nice map of Texas, part of a school geography produced by S. A. Mitchell, Jr. and Published by E.H. Butler & Co. Great deal of details on counties, topography, rivers, towns and cities are shown. Further, it also shows the meandering national mail route from Sherman to Gainesville to Fort Belknap to Ft. Phantom Hill to Ft. Chadbourne through "Comanche and Lipans" and then north and west through New Mexico to El Paso. The inset of the Pan Handle shows the road from Santa Fe to Fort Smith, Arkansas. This map also locates over a dozen western forts and notes the locations of the battles of San Jacinto (1836), Palo Alto (1846) and Resaca de La Palma (1846). This map has attractive light blue hand coloring
