Important scrapbook album for boxer Ernie Vigh. He fought from 1938 to 1949, winding up with an impressive record of 61 wins, 41 by knockout, 12 losses, two by knockout, and one draw. Vigh, who served in the Coast Guard during World War II, retired from the ring following his split decision loss to Tony Bertucci at the Broadway Arena in Brooklyn on December 8, 1949, and opened a joint in Queens, Ernie’s Bar and Grill. It was while driving in Long Island City that he lost control of his car and crashed. He died at St. John’s Hospital on July 23, 1951, 20 days after his 32nd birthday. Includes a signed 8 x 10 photograph, photographs taken during matches, programs, newspaper clippings and even an photograph with Joe Louis in training. None of the items in the scrapbook are glued, they are slid into corner mounts. An important boxing archive of a New York Boxer. We ship all items from this auction in house.
