NEW JERSEY NAPOLEON / MCKINLEY TOBY CERAMIC JUG / PITCHER, molded in the form of a squat Napoleon-looking figure with black tricorn hat, hand-painted facial details, and gilding. Having "Napoleon Jug / Pat Apl For / Alfred B. Evans / Phila PA" printed on base. Likely Morris and Willmore, Columbian Art Pottery, Trenton, New Jersey. Circa 1895. 9 5/8" H.
Undamaged with expected glaze crazing and some light staining to interior edge of rim.
Catalogue Note: This jug was made around the time of the McKinley presidential campaign and is sometimes referred to as the "McKinley Toby". It was distributed through Alfred B. Evans, a merchant in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania and was produced in five different sizes.
