FRENCH / DUTCH MILITARY ENGINEERING AND FORTIFICATION DIAGRAM, hand-colored, on laid paper, title along top edge in French "CARTE QUI REPRESENTE TOUTES LES PIECES QUI SONT COMPRISES DANS L'ARCHITECTURE MILITAIRE, OU L'ART DES FORTIFICATIONS", and again in Dutch to cartouche bottom left corner, including publisher's/printer's information, "TAFEL / in welke vertoont wedren / alle Werk-tuygen behorende tot de KRYGS-KUNDE / Vestingbouw en Artillerye / als mede tot de Belegeringe van / Steden, Velt-Steden, Legertochten / en Legerplaatzen, alle de gedeeltens / van de Zee en 't Land, en / eyn delyk allerley Slag van Schlepen / in 't Licht gebracht door / Casper Specht 't Utrecht. / gedrukt tot Amsterdam by / I. Ottens." (sic), with French text to image and Dutch text to numbered key along bottom edge; in protective plastic sleeve, having conservation linen tabs at upper corners, the tabs attached to sleeve with brass grommets. Joachim Ottens (Dutch, 1663-1719) or heirs; Jasper [Casper] Specht (Dutch, 1654-1710). Late 17th/first half 18th century. 19 1/2" x 24 1/2" OA.
Very good condition overall, some toning throughout, expected fold-lines, two repaired tears to top edge at central fold-line, two very short tears to other edges (longest 1/4" L). Conservation linen tabs as described.
Provenance: Property Deaccessioned by the Colonial Williamsburg Foundation, Williamsburg, Virginia. All proceeds to benefit the Collections Acquisitions Fund.
Condition
