Description
SILAS HOADLEY (PLYMOUTH, CT, 1786-1870) PINE TALL-CASE CLOCK, wooden movement, bell chime; the hood having fretwork pediment centering fluted rectangular column surmounted by later gilt-painted wooden ball finial, flanked by matching columns and finials, above tombstone-arch glass door flanked by turned columns, on rectangular case having panel door with brass pull, flanked by quarter columns, set on plinth base with applied simple bracket feet; painted wooden dial with seconds hand, surmounted by gilt- and polychrome-painted floral urn decoration, gilt-painted decoration to spandrels, lettered "S. HOADLEY, PLYMOUTH" around polychrome floral decoration. Retains pendulum and weights. 19th century. 77" HOA, 19 5/8" W, 11 7/8" D.
Case in very good condition overall, some minor wear, some natural splitting to back panel; dial with craquelure to painted surface, areas of wear, particularly to lower left quadrant. Unknown working condition (see Catalogue Guarantee).
