Roman, Northern Africa, ca. 3rd to 4th century CE. A mold-made redware pottery oil lamp with a ringed base, acutely-angled walls, an unperforated handle, and a petite wick spout. The recessed tondo displays an intricate tree, its leafy branches projecting upwards and outwards from the thick trunk, with a pair of fill holes flanking either side and a small vent hole underneath. Its red-orange slip color is characteristic of Roman-era pottery created in North African settlements. A great example! Size: 4.875" L (12.4 cm).

Surface wear commensurate with age and use, small chips to handle, light roughness to base and along shoulders, minor char marks to wick spout, otherwise very good. Light earthen and mineral deposits throughout.
