Southeast Asia, ca. early 20th century CE. A hand-carved wooden sculpture depicting a couple engaged in an explicitly erotic act. The figures are delineated in an abstract manner with angular bodies - their legs intertwined arms, their arms in an embrace - as well as smiling facial expressions, the female's visage framed by an incised coiffure, the male's topped by a decorative band with a round ornament adorned with an "X" above his forehead. The couple's intimately interlaced bodies and impassioned expressions are skillfully carved from a single piece of wood, and the piece stands firmly upon the couple's feet. Size: 4.125" W x 11.375" H (10.5 cm x 28.9 cm)
