Ruth Eileen Peters Sproul (West Virginia/Virginia, 1921 - 2017) framed oil on board depicting Folly Farm, with serpentine wall designed by Thomas Jefferson and owned 4 -5 generations by the Cochran family in Folly Mills Creek, Staunton, VA. Signed and dated to lower right "Ruth Sproul 1990". Wood frame measures 25" in height with width of 29-1/4" and depth of 1-3/4" while the sight image measures 19-1/4" in height with width of 23-1/2". In overall good condition, all measurements are approximate. Folly Farm is an historic plantation home located near Staunton, Augusta County, Virginia established in 1818 and is a one-story brick structure with a long, low service wing and deck-on-hip roof in the Jeffersonian style. It closely resembles Edgemont near Covesville, Va., another home in the style of Jeffersonian on the historic registry.
