Description
EDWARDIAN CLOTHING ARTICLES, LOT OF THREE, comprising one simple black polished-cotton everyday mourning/maternity dress, long sleeves, high waist with ample soft gathered pleating on wrap-around front, mostly hand sewn, lined bodice, lacking original hook and eye closures; and one black silk taffeta skirt with tight-fitting waist, machine- and hand-sewn, having two cotton velvet borders around the bottom pleat and hemline to add weight and structure during movement, trimmed with silk passementerie and cutwork, expert tailoring, small bustle gathers on back with hook and eye as well as very early design snap closures, with matching black silk taffeta capelet or shawl, fully hand-sewn, scalloped edges, entirely trimmed with silk and horsehair passementerie and cutwork. Together with a ruffled black polished-cotton petticoat. Four pieces total. Circa 1901. Dress approximately 32" bust, 26" high waist, 36" hips, 52" long from shoulder seam to hemline; skirt approximately 23" waist, 40" L with additional 7" shallow train; shawl 48" L, 14" WOA.
Dress in very good condition with several small holes and frayed hemline from wear; skirt in fair condition with significant shattering overall and loss to waist band, weakness in several areas with splits around waist, multiple splits; shawl in good condition with indications of weak areas and small splits to silk overall; petticoat in fair condition.
