Pre-Columbian, Peru (North Coast), Moche Culture, ca. 100 to 700 CE. A cast copper emblem of an ovoid form with a flat base and a gently rounded face with a relief zoomorphic motif that appears to be a frog or lizard. The head of the animal is in the center of the emblem, surrounded by symmetrical, sinuous lines that look like highly stylized legs. A border surrounds this creature. Applied to the back of the piece is a tiny stone pendant in the form of another stylized zoomorphic figure. This pendant seems to have become attached to the emblem as a result of patina, probably from being buried together. Size: 2.3" W x 1.75" H (5.8 cm x 4.4 cm); 4" H (10.2 cm) on included custom stand.

Bright green patina. A tiny pendant is applied to back of emblem - although the pendant is ancient and Moche, it was probably not originally attached to the piece, but became joined to it during the depositional process.
