The first book by Charles Kingsley (1819-1875), Victorian novelist and controversial socialist clergyman, a life of Saint Elizabeth of Hungary (1207-1231), which Kingsley wrote, in part, to impress a woman he wished to marry. Wolff 3810; NCBEL III, 936. Fine copy of a book that is not rare but is difficult to obtain in collector's condition.
