Extremely Rare Salt-Glazed Stoneware Lion Doorstop, Inscribed "Nov 13 /. 89 / Made By / Geo. E . Inmon / Beatrice, Neb.", George E. Inmon, Beatrice, Gage County, Nebraska, 1889, molded figure of a reclining lion on rustic, split-log base, the figure's face with hand-incised details, the entire surface and underside covered in a salt glaze. Underside hand-incised with the large signature, "Nov 13 /.89 / Made By / Geo. E. Inmon / Beatrice, Neb.". Salt-glazed stoneware produced in the state of Nebraska is considered exceptionally rare, and this is the first example that we have ever offered. Appealing, folky form. Provenance: A fresh-to-the-market example, consigned from Washington State. Excellent condition with some minor chipping to back edge of base. L 11 3/8"; W 5 1/4" ; H 6 1/2".
