Description
Japanese Meiji-era Satsuma coffee or tea pot, artist-signed "Hodota," 1890-1912, the heavily gilded porcelain with finely-painted depictions of Kuanyin / Kannon, lohans, and arhats, the handle and spout of three-clawed dragons, the knop with tiny dragon and Shimazu mons, the underside with a cartouche enclosing the Shimazu family crest and "Dai Nippon Satsuma Hodota;" the artist was considered a late Meiji master of Satsuma painting. 10.5" H X 9.25" W over handle and spout. Tiny glaze imperfection and possible gilt touch-up to dragon tail of spout.
