Description
THE HOT SPRINGS along the Houkigawa River have a long history beginning with their discovery in 806. The area is called "Shiobara Juichi-Yu," because of the 11 existing there: Otsuna, Fukuwatari, Shionoyu, Shiogama, Hatashita, Monzen, Komachi, Nakashiobara, Kamishiobara, Niiyu, Motoyu. Today there are many modern hotels in Shiobara, but it retains a traditional atmosphere reflecting its 1,200 plus year history. Shiobarra is known throughout Japan for its breathtaking views of Japanese valleys particularly in the fall as seen in Hasui's print.
