Description
1st millennium BC. A ceramic red-red-on-buff storage vessel with flared rim, globular body and wide pedestal base; surface decorated with bands of meandering curvilinear geometric patterns. For type see, Labbe, A. Prehistoric Thai Ceramics: Ban Chiang in regional Cultural Perspective, Bangkok, 2002, p.50, no.73, pl.73. 2.83 kg, 31cm (12 1/4"). From an important South London private collection; acquired in the early 1990s; formerly the property of a British Diplomat since the late 1960s; accompanied by an original Oxford Authentication Thermoluminescence analysis report for a vessel found alongside this one, reference number N108n6, dated 8 May 2008.
