Description
Ancient Near East, Anatolia, ca. late 2nd millennium BCE. An unusually large (about twice as large as we usually see) cast-bronze bull, a symbol of both fertility and virility in the ancient world. The slender, elongated body of the figurine stands atop four legs with stylized hooves, and a long tail draping behind. A broad snout, incised mouth, double-perforated eyes, and perforated nose create the stylized visage of this animal with a prominent pair of curved horns projecting from the top of his head. The body has developed a lovely green patina that is covered with earthen deposits. A wonderful example! Size: 5.5" L x 3.375" H (14 cm x 8.6 cm)
