Description
A fantastic Heart Scarab in hardstone naturalistically modelled in the shape of a scarab beetle, with its mandibles, eyes, antennae and striated wing case, the flat underside uninscribed. The heart scarab was used in the weighing of the heart ceremony in the hall of Justice (chapter 30 from the Book of the Dead), being balanced against a feather by Goddess Ma'at to determine whether the soul (BA) would be allowed to access the place of the afterlive.. This particular example is of the highest quality and is a higly collectible piece of ancient art.
