Description
Arsenopyrite
Panasqueira Mines
Covilhã, Castelo Branco District
Portugal
This specimen of Arsenopyrite sparkles with an abundance of colors over its "feathery" crystalline form. The primarily golden rock is punctuated with brushstrokes of rainbow hues of an oily nature on a matrix of clear Quartz points. The largest crystal exhibits minor damage to the tip, but the blend of its recurring color palette is the real draw for this specimen. As this mineral is an iron arsenic sulfide, it can be toxic if dissolved or heated then inhaled or ingested. This is a heavy and solid collector specimen from Portugal.
Overall Measurements: 6.30 x 5.12 x 2.56 inches (16.00 x 13.00 x 6.50 cm)
Provenance: Central Coast Collection
[Scale: 1 inch, with mark at 1 cm]
