Description
A Chinese black ground dragon robe dating from the 19th century. The central motif is a 5-clawed dragon with a flaming pearl, surrounded by bats, ruyi-motif clouds, and with a wave and rock motif border. There are 2 dragons in the band at the bottom, and 1 dragon on each sleeve along with phoenix roundels and lotus and crane embroidery. There is a dragon on the reverse with another 2 dragons at the bottom, and 1 more dragon at the bottom in the interior of the robe.
Dimensions are: 28 1/2 inches tall X 65 inches wide. All measurements are approximate.
Condition: The black ground silk is badly faded to grey. The collar is very worn and torn.
