Featuring a fine antique Japanese enamel cloisonne set of 6 plaques illustrating the basic steps in the making of Japanese cloisonne. #1, drawing a design on copper, #2, affixing silver wires(cloisons)that conform to design with glue, #3, first enamel coating and firing, #4, Second enamel coating and firing, #5 Final firing with enamel higher than level of wires and #6, polishing the enamel to the level of the wires. The entire process took days to years depending on the amount of detail in the item being made. The greatest expenditure of time was in the polishing which was all done by hand. Fine Japanese cloisonne making from the late 19th century is a lost art and will never be reproduced. Date circa 1900. Dimensions: 2 5/16" square. Excellent condition.
