Description
This is a very old and rare wooden medicine idol from the San Blas islands off the coast of Panama, central America. The Kuna indians would carve such idols for use in healing ceremonies. Known locally as Nuchu ( or Uchu) The Shaman would carve this idol from a sacred tree, and would sing magic songs into the idol, infusing it with a soul or "Purba" . The Nuchu would act as a medium to the spirit world in aid in healing rituals. The Kuna would actually scare the edges of the idol and use the fragments and dust in healing potions, the sculpture was actual medicine!From San Blas island, Panama. Measures 12 inches (14 inches) on professional custom display stand.
