Description
1887 Charles Darwin Descent of Man Evolution Sexuality APES Monkeys Science
“it is those who know little, not those who know much, who so positively assert that this or that problem will never be solved by science.”
― Charles Darwin, The Descent of Man
A very rare edition of Charles Darwin’s ‘Descent of Man.’ This is the work in which Darwin’s theories of evolution by means of natural selection were realized. Before this book, Darwin applied his thoughts to animals and plants but had not yet decided they also could be realized in Homo sapiens. In fact, the world ‘evolution’ had not appeared in any Darwinian work prior to ‘Descent of Man.’ Many of Darwin’s theories that were prevalent in ‘Descent’ have been misconstrued and misinterpreted – most notably that humans descended from apes. Darwin never said humans came from apes or monkeys. Darwin’s actually said that “human ancestors, if alive today, would have to be classified among the Primates.” (De Beer).
