Henri Émile Benoît Matisse (French, 1869-1954) Attributed/Manner of: Gouache and Tempera on paper, signed right margin, stamped verso, with certificate of authenticity, Galerie Norman Mayer, Framed. Matisse was known for both his use of colour and his fluid and original compositions. He was a draughtsman, printmaker, and sculptor, but is known primarily as a painter. Matisse is accepted as one of the most influential modern painters and crowned as the leader of Fauvism, a 20th century movement that favored a painterly style and bold, expressive use of color over the representational or naturalistic values of the Impressionist movement before. Size: 27.7 x 18.6 cm (paper), 44.5 x 34.92 (Frame)
