In this listing we are pleased to offer this extravagant Cartier & European Watch Co (EWC) 18K Solid Gold Pocket Watch. For many years in the beginning of the 19th Century Cartier collaborated with European Watch & Clock Co, also known as EWC to produce top grade watches that were sold to Cartier's high end clients. This pocket watch was a product of such collaboration, it has a Cartier marked dial with EWC marked case & movement. It is larger and heavier than most such Cartier & EWC pocket watches that we've handled, the diameter is a large 47.5mm and total weight is very hefty at 74.3g for an open faced watch. The movement is a high grade gilt bridge design with steel bright-works. It has 18 jewels with 6 adjustments, the escape wheel bridge is capped. Condition-wise the watch runs but we cannot guarantee timekeeping accuracy or longevity as we don't know its service history. The balance will run and stop with movement side up but the balance swings steady and true when the watch is rotated to suggest that there is nothing wrong with the balance staff. It could just be dried oil in the lower pivot causing the stoppage. Anyways it is recommended for the buyer to service the watch with a competent watchmaker at his/her own expense. Cosmetically overall the watch is quite clean, the caseback is free of initials, the movement has no rust but does have a few scratches to the surface. The dial is refinished. Please be your own judge on this matter, we won't be accepting returns on this watch.
