New England Glass Fixed Globe Lantern "Hildreth"

Item Details

Description

A fine New England Glass Company fixed globe lantern with an employee scratching his name on both sides of the top vent area. One side is clearly nail scratched "H Hildreth". The other side is hard to make out. This is definitely a New England Glass Company product: (1) reverse curve top with cross hatch vent holes (2) intake holes are rounded 5 point stars. For more info on fixed globes see: http://www.tagtown.net/rcai/fixedg/fixed1.html The globe is free blown and has an applied top flange. This was done to get better surface area for the plaster to stick. The total height is 12" (excluding the bail) and the visible portion of the globe is 6 1/2". The pinch pot is very interesting with micro intake holes. The burner is a very old pewter double whale oil pick wick. A fine display piece. Anybody know of an H. Hildreth in ancient records?
