Description
An early fixed globe style railroad lantern with CRR cut in asymmetrical lettering. This shape of lantern is best known as a "lighthouse" because of eth tapered globe. The frame is tin and has a nice upper portion with all original parts including the flat band bail and reflecting top plate with old wires. The vent holes are a simple double round design. The globe is similar to other known examples but it definitely exceeds the upper and lower tin joints. The glass is nice free blown and has a New England Glass style wheel cutting. This means the vertical and horizontal lines are not the same width. The base is simple with a convex bottom plate a leaf spring retaining latch. The glass fount and burner are missing. The fount collar has partially separated. A replacement fount would be pretty easy to glue in. careful on the non-standard size for these early lantern founts. I say it's Concord because they were the biggest of eth New England "C" railroads. Sure, it might be Cheshire. You be the judge.
