Description
1641 Nifo Pulchro & Amore Aristotelian Philosophy Humanism ELZEVIER Psychology
Agostino Nifo was a 15th-century Italian philosopher who published a number of commentaries on Aristotle as well as his own works on philosophy and humanity. Two of his works, ‘De Pulchro et amore’ and ‘Tagliacocii Principem’ give a philosophical expression of human emotion. ‘De Pulchro’ propelled Nifo’s popularity and fame as he used it as a platform to argue immortality of the soul with Pomponazzi. Other topics include indulging in human pleasures, the use of the senses, and understanding beauty and love.
This 1641 first edition was published in Lyon by Lopes de Haro, one of many extensions of the house of Elzevier. (Renouard). However, contrary to most Elzevier printings, neither of the works in this tome feature the classic ‘Elzevier engraved’ title page. Still, a beautiful work from a famous printer.
