BITS OF CARELESS TALK MEDIUM
Stevan Dohanos (1907-1994) created this poster in 1943 during World War II to help raise awareness of espionage. During the Second World War, there was a constant concern in the United States about inappropriate information being overheard by enemy agents both domestically and abroad. Dohanos worked for the Section of Painting and Sculpture of the U.S. Treasury Department. Among several murals created for post offices during this time, Dohanos designed many American propaganda pieces that centered on the theme of "Careless Talk." Stevan Dohanos was a successful commercial artist active in the mid-20th Century. He attended the Cleveland School of Art and admired artists like Grant Wood and Edward Hopper. He illustrated over 125 covers for the Saturday Evening Post. In the 1960s he served as chairman of the Citizens' Stamp Advisory Committee. His paintings and prints have been highlights in many national museums and art institutions including the Cleveland Museum of Art, Whitney Museum of American Art, Pennsylvania Academy of the Fine Arts, and Dartmouth College. This is an Original Vintage Poster; it is not a reproduction. This poster is conservation mounted, linen backed, and in excellent condition. We guarantee the authenticity of all of our posters.
