Gilbert (1878-1970) was the son of Samuel A. Gilbert, a prosperous furniture merchant of Norwich, Conn., and his wife, Susan Helen Andrews Gilbert. Approx. 55 pages of text. 8vo. Contemp full leather. (2) Two-volume diary of Elizabeth S. Shiffer, recording her trip to Europe with Samuel S. Shiffer in 1887. Includes Paris, Rome, portions of central Europe, and Britain. Also mentions the Doges Palace in Venice, Luino, Lake Maggiore, German lessons, and a train ride to Geneva. Shiffer pinned a list of Prussian kings to one leaf. More than 175pp of text. 8vo. Contemp half leather and marbled board._x000D_
Condition Gilbert’s diary is very good. One volume of Shiffer’s diary has a worn binding. The other is good with wear to spine ends and corners. Texts very good.
