Description
In the early 1900s, many saloons invested in the Multiphone, which is considered to be the first jukebox. For five cents, patrons spin the hand-crank to rotate the circular interior mechanism holding up to 24 cylinders. The songs are read on a paper program, playing melodies such as Les Lanciers and Medley Of The Southern Airs. Its interesting design lured the customers in, saved money spent on musicians and even created a small amount of revenue. Housed in a mahogany cabinet with magnificent hand carved wood work and chrome hardware. Manufactured by the Multiphone Operating Co. in 1905. Minor wear, most noticeable along the edges of the left side. Eight keys are included. Condition: (Very Good - Excellent). Dimensions: 87"T x 40"W x 24"D.
