Eleven of fifteen volumes of this important San Francisco literary magazine, edited by Bret Harte and the venue for the publication of some of his most famous early stories, including "The Luck of Roaring Camp" (which appeared in the second issue, August, 1868), "The Outcasts of Poker Flat," "Tennessee's Partner," "Plain Language from Truthful James," and others. Other contributor's included John Muir, Ina Coolbrith (an associate editor), and "Sam L. Clemens (Mark Twain)". Each volume with ownership marks and two signature chops on front free endpaper.

Varying amounts of wear, most with rubbing/fraying at spine ends and corners; a few joint splits and weak hinges; Volume I chipped at top of spine; insides lightly toned; overall very good.
