Description
**Originally Listed At $150**
North America, United States, ca. mid 19th century CE. A pair of antique thermoplastic Union photograph cases, one with a tintype photo and one without. The smaller black-colored case, a scarce octagonal scroll/geometric sixth-plate case (Krainik, p. 143, figure 363), has no photograph but includes the original paper advertisement logo for the casemaker inside both halves, which reads "HOLMES, BOOTH AND HAYDENS' Daguerreotype, PHOTOGRAPHIC, AND Ambrotype Goods, Of every description" (Krainik, p. 11, figure 16 [far left example]). The larger red case, a scarce quarter-plate scroll/geometric case (Krainik, p. 62, figure 60), displays leafy motifs and central ovular checkered design. This case features the portrait of a young suited man underneath an embossed brass mat and glass panel, and surrounded by a finely-detailed brass perimeter; two hinges allow the case to easily close.
