A NEOCLASSICAL BRONZE DORÉ MOUNTED NOIR BELGE MARBLE ENCRIER, CONTINENTAL, CIRCA 1890, in the French taste, a bust of Ajax/Menelaus, modeled after the Florentine Pasquino Group, found in the Loggia dei Lanzi, on a circular socle and square plinth base, flanked by two tapered cylindrical inkwells with tin liners, the tops with ball and disc finials over relief flowering wreaths, over a single register with relief figures of Roman soldiers in procession with war horses and elephants, mounted to a black marble base, fronted by a dished pen tray. Some soil on the marble, a white colored residue, some losses of paint on liners, mild patina, some old repairs to lid hinges, mild chips and losses of marble, mostly near the left corner, but overall in good condition, wear commensurate with age and use.
