attributed to KARPEN BROTHERS (American 1880-1951) A THREE PIECE ART NOUVEAU GILTWOOD AND COMPOSITION PARLOR SUITE, CHICAGO, 1880-1915, comprising a wing back love seat, a bergère a orielle, and a side chair; each with flower bloom encrusted crest rails, within scrolling tendrils and leafy stalks, the larger pieces with tripartite upholstered backs within wings, over bowed seats, and within outwardly scrolled arms on twist, and scrolled relief swan neck supports, raised on flower bloom knee encrusted cabriole legs, joined by shaped whiplash and sunflower motif skirts. Settee height: 42", width: 57 1/2", depth: 22"; bergère height: 40", width: 31 1/2", depth: 22"; chair height: 35", width: 21 1/4", depth: 18".
Condition
Heavy patina throughout, dirt, dust, and soil, areas with applied later gilt, minor chips and losses to carving, some tears, soil, darkening and staining of upholstery, reupholster recommended, but overall in fair to good condition, wear commensurate with age and use.
