Item Details
Description
The Sabre Stock. Complete with cable releases, Leica IIf, Nr. 653007, 400mm Telyt f5, Nr. 824062, Visoflex I Nr. 11603 with PEGOO viewfinder in fitted case. A very small chip of vulcanite is missing on the camera slow speed dial cover. Working.
Made in 1956-1957 by a Leica parts supplier, The Sabre Photographic Supply Company in Chicago, this rifle stock alternative to the Leica Rifle was never marketed by Leitz and only produced for one year. Perhaps a few hundred exist, although the exact number is not known.
The Sabre Stock - like the “Gewehr†Leica Rifle - used 200mm and 400mm Telyt lenses and the Visoflex I with a double cable release, for making action pictures with long telephoto lenses. Like its Leica counterpart, the Sabre Stock was beautifully built to Leica’s own standard. Unlike the Leica Gewehr, however, the Sabre Stock has the added feature of allowing the camera to be used easily in portrait configuration.
A treasure for any Leica aficionado.
