Three Antique Hand Colored Avian Framed Lithographs by J. Gould & H. C. Richter, Circa 1850
The Mealy Redpole (Aegiothus Linaria) and two others, in frames, circa 1850. 32" x 25" in matching frames.
Henry Constantine Richter (1821 - 1902) was an English zoological illustrator who produced a very large number of skillful coloured lithographs of birds and mammals, mainly for the scientific books of the renowned English 19th century ornithologist . John Gould FRS (1804- 1881) was an English ornithologist and bird artist. He published a number of monographs on birds, illustrated by plates that he produced with the assistance of his wife,Elizabeth Gould, and several other artists including Edward Lear,Henry Constantine Richter, Joseph Wolf and William Matthew Hart. Gould is famous for having worked with Darwin to identify birds.
