Description
Mixed media on board, framed. Featuring a nude portrait. Signed and attr. Antonio Corpora (Italian, 1909-2004) on the lower right corner. 27 x 17 cm (10.6 x 6.7 inches). Frame size: 36 x 25.5 cm (14.2 x 10.0 inches). Antonio Corpora (Tunis 1909 - Rome 2004) was an Italian painter. After studying at the Art School of Tunis, he moved initially to Florence, Paris and Milan, and finally to Rome. In the 1930s his painting was abstract, and in post-war years, he contributed to the development of a concrete-abstract form of painting through his knowledge of French contemporary culture. After neo-cubist experiences, he joined the new arts Front and subsequently the Gruppo degli Otto, within which he developed a non-geometric abstraction centered around a vibrant colour scheme. In 1952, he exhibited at the Venice Biennale. His works can be found at the National Gallery of Modern Art in Rome and at the Museum of Modern Art in New York. PROVENANCE: Southern Ontario estate
