Italian Giltwood Mirror in the Rococo Taste

fourth quarter 18th century, the rectangular molded surround carved with beading and leaves at each corner and fitted with an inset mirror, the crest with pierced rocaille work and the sides decorated with pierced scrollwork.

In overall good condition. The mirror frame exhibits evidence of extensive inpainting, regilding and past repairs. Shrinkage. Now with losses throughout to the gilt and gesso, most painted in. The later mirror plate is crisp and clear; the back replaced.
