Roy Keister was born in Germantown Ohio. Keister was a successful illustrator and commercial artist in Chicago. Keister painted with artist Walter Ufer in the 1930Â’s. He moved to Weslaco, TX in 1947 and opened the Roy C. Keister School of Art. He taught classes for the Brownsville Art League in Brownsville Junior College in Brownsville, TX. Keister moved to California in 1953 and established a mail order art school in San Jose and an art school in Santa Clara. He returned to Texas in the 1980s.
His exhibition history is as follows: Palette and Chisel Club, Chicago, 1926, 1927; Art Institute of Chicago 1928; Agricultural Building; A Century of Progress International Exposition in Chicago in 1933; Burpee Art Gallery in Rockford, IL in 1946; Brownsville Art League, Brownsville, TX in 1947, 1948, 1949; Harlingen State Bank in 1950; Weslaco, TX in 1951; Texas Fine Arts Association, 1952; International Madonna Festival in Los Angeles, CA in 1952; Laguna Beach Art Gallery in CA in 1953 and 1959; Artell’s Gallery San Mateo, CA in 1964; Alaska Art Gallery in Fairbanks in 1966.
