Two Rare Postcards From 1918 FRAM Drift Expedition

Item Details

Description

Pair of rarely seen Fram Drift Expedition postcards. The Roald Amundsen arctic expedition was delayed until 1918 because of WWI. The pack ice in which the FRAM was frozen drifted by the northern coast of Siberia and never made it to the North Pole. Both cards bear original postmarks of 9/13/1918 which was the day of departure. The FRAM was abandoned in 1920. The mail was not recovered until 1924. The bottom card was registered at Oslo in 1924 after removal from the FRAM. Very few pieces of mail from the FRAM survived. Suggested bid $300
