Description
Large and fine Doulton Burslem Holbein Ware vase sold through Tiffany & Company in New York. Pictured on the tall vase is a farmer harnessing his white work horse while his faithful dog follows, all standing by a stone wall which fronts the farmer’s house. Trees and birds in flight at dawn highlight the rest of the scene. Painted by Charles B. Hopkins whose name is painted on the side in black slip. Other marks include the Doulton Burslem Holbein Ware ink stamp logo along with the name Doulton both incised and impressed. Also in black is the retailer’s name. Height is 12 1/4 inches. Excellent condition with fine crazing and a small scratch or two. I am told by a Doulton collector that it is rare for the horses hooves to be seen as painting them in such detail was time consuming and not encouraged.
