Prince 1984 26th Birthday Party Invitation, Ticket, & Memo W/Party Plans Acquired From Assistant Tour Manager W/(2) Letters of Provenance - This lot includes an invitation, unused ticket and memo from Prince's 26th Birthday Party on June 7, 1984 at First Avenue Nightclub in Minneapolis, Minnesota. The lot includes a purple ticket marked with glittery text "Private Members Party & Concert," with no mention of Prince in order to conceal the surprise nature of his unannounced performance at the club, a folded 5.5" x 8.5" invitation for he after show party with a map diagram inside and a one-page typed memo regarding the particulars of the concert and the need for secrecy. This party took place just three weeks before the premier of the film Purple Rain, which sent Prince into the permanent limelight of fame. The items were acquired from Gwen Leeds, who was Prince's assistant tour manager for the legendary Purple Rain, Parade, Sign o' the Times and Lovesexy tours of the 1980s. She was the wife of longtime tour manager and Paisley Park Records president Alan Leeds and worked at Paisley Park from its opening in 1988 through 1990 before founding a fashion styling business. The lot will be accompanied by a letter of provenance from Leeds, and an additional letter of provenance from the current owner.
