Greek, colony of Apulia, southeastern Italy, ca. 340 to 325 BCE. Beautiful and finely painted pottery olpe done in the style of the painter of Berlin F3383. Bulbous midsection on short foot with thin rim and lovely decoration. On the body is a kneeling winged Eros, shown nude, with offering patera in his left hand and bunch of grapes held in his right; large wings stretch behind him. Other devices include palmettes and tendrils on reverse, laurel wreath on the neck, added white pigment throughout. Size: 5.25" W x 5.375" H (13.3 cm x 13.7 cm)
